Throughout the design process we are considering materials selections and choices. Often there are strata design guidelines that can restrict the available options, but through a coordinated effort it can also make for a more aesthetically pleasing neighbourhood. We are very familiar with working to guidelines and making the most of their suggestions and criteria.
Selecting the right materials for a home is always a carefully considered process. There are so many options available that this task can seem daunting. Having a clear understanding as to the various pros and cons of materials and their true life-long costs means that our clients benefit from years of experience.
Quality is a balance of the specification of a product and its level of finish. Good colour selections for example can outweigh the relative difference between two paint brands. A well installed and finished trim package is more important than whether the wood is fir or mahogany. Only once the level of finish and installation reaches a threshold level of skill can the material specifications be valued. That said, there is a sweet spot between a material's cost and the cost to make it achieve the desired result. Sometimes it is better to spend a little more at the outset so save later, and other times that is reversed. That is why the design specification is so important to defining project success.
