Our ideal scenario is to work with our clients to produce a home design that is the perfect balance of form, function and budget. Too often we are presented plans - either commissioned works or plan book copies - that are so mismatched from the overall construction budget that they could never be built. We don't want an unsuccesful build, it isn't good for anyone; the client suffers stress, the builder typically struggles to get paid, and eventually the home isn't completed to the desired finish.
While we find our clients' desires to maintain a tight rein on costs laudable, this is best done - and really only achieved properly - in the design and specification stages. Trying to haggle down prices later is almost futile. We have a very good handle on what all aspects of a build will cost, and we make every effort to incorporate as many needs and wants while making as few concessions as possible. Sometimes our clients don't like hearing what we say, but we would prefer not to commence a project than outstripping available finances.
